DAILY
The bikes must be kept clean at all times. Sweat is highly corrosive and the bikes will deteriorate if not regularly cleaned.
Wipe the bike down with a cloth after each class and use a degreasing agent such as WD40, available from any bike shop.
Set the gear resistance lever and the tension adjusters to the zero resistance position at the end of each class.
WEEKLY
Oil the chain with a good quality chain lubricant. Check the chain tension - place one hand on the flywheel to prevent it turning and see if there is any forwards or backwards play in the crank arms. If there is, this indicates that the chain has stretched. Loosen the flywheel security nuts, tighten the chain by turning the tension adjustment nuts an equal number of turns on either side, and then securely tighten the security nuts.
Make sure that the saddle, handlebar, stem and cranks are all secure and show no signs of play. Make sure the brake pads are correctly aligned with the flywheel, realign if necessary. Check the toe straps for signs of wear and make sure that the pedals rotate smoothly.
GENERAL
During the first few weeks of use, cables may stretch and nuts and bolts need to bed in. So please give the bikes extra attention for the first two or three weeks. Make sure that all retaining bolts such as those on the handlebar / stem and crank arms are securely tightened. Check regularly that the pedals have not started to unscrew from the cranks ( prolonged backpedalling in class may cause the pedals to unscrew and it is not recommended).
Approximately once a year you may need to change the bottom bracket. Signs of wear are when the axle appears to be
loose in the frame and the crank arms can be moved from side to side.
If your bikes are well looked after they will last indefinitely, with the occasional minimal costs for replacement parts.
We recommend an annual service visit by one of our engineers to totally refurbish you bikes and to train any new staff in routine maintenance procedures.
